A Collaborative Community of Leaders: Cloud Computing in Education

ICA CON 2017
ICA CON 2017, the 5th International IBM Cloud Academy Conference, will provide an exciting opportunity for educators and researchers to share ideas and experiences in cloud computing. The conference is open to both K-12 and higher education institutions already implementing cloud technologies and services, or considering doing so.

The program will be derived from the refereed review of proposals, presently envisioned to include invited keynotes, technical papers, position papers, workshops and a technology showcase. The technical papers portion of the conference program will feature experience reports and original research papers. The technology showcase will feature poster presentations and demonstrations on cloud computing research or implementations in progress. Selected papers from conference proceedings will be published as a special edition of the International Journal of Cloud Computing (IJCC) and the Journal of Organization Design as well as a dedicated Springer monograph.

Wroclaw is the fourth largest city in Poland and the largest one in the western part of the country. It consists of 12 islands connected by 117 bridges, situated on the Oder River and four of its tributaries. As the largest city in Lower Silesia, it is that region's administrative, economic and cultural capital. The city is over a thousand years old, and the heritage of the past combines gracefully with the modernity of a world business center. Some of the city's historical sites include:

Wrocław Cathedral, built originally in the mid 10th century, and located in Ostrów Tumski (Cathedral Island), the oldest part of the city and formerly an island between the branches of the Oder River; the 13th century Main Market Square that features the Old Town Hall, St. Elisabeth's Church and the Salt Square (now a flower market); St. Mary Magdalene Church (also built in the 13th century); and Centennial Hall, designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2006. In 2016, Wroclaw was designated as the European Capital of Culture and the World Book Capital, and will be hosting the World Games 2017.

Wroclaw University of Science and Technology (WUST) is the successor of the German University Königliche Technische Hochschule Breslau, and has been operating as WUST since 1945 (when it inherited many faculty from Lvov Polytechnic). Today it is the largest premier technology university in Poland, with 33,000 students, 2,000 professors and 16 faculties. The University currently collaborates with academic and industrial partners from 49 countries. It houses 859 education laboratories, 112 research laboratories and 12 accredited laboratories, while hosting 192 student scientific associations and 32 cultural programs.

We are therefore excited that WUST will be hosting this 5th International IBM Cloud Academy Conference in 2017. ICA CON 2017 will be an excellent venue for presenting original work, exchanging new ideas, embracing cloud technologies, sharing results and experiences, and networking with other leading institutions globally who are also already implementing cloud solutions.
