Crowdsourcing is a paradigm in which the collective efforts and intelligence of individuals are funneled to solve problems. Such problems are divided in smaller subproblems, which are called tasks, that are voluntarily undertaken and solved by people.
What are tasks in crowdsourcing?
Tasks are small units of work performed by individuals that combined help solve bigger problems. Example of tasks are locating tumors in medical images that help machine learning algorithms to train and automatically locate them or annotating images to help information retrieval algorithms retrieve relevant content.
How is ECrowd used?
ECrowd is an application that supports creation, modification and monitoring of crowdsourcing campaigns. It allows administration of a campaign from a web interface where tasks can be generated and disseminated to the crowd and output can be collected. It is also deployed as a platform independent mobile application that distributes tasks to a selected crowd.
