At IBM Research – Cambridge we work on technological innovations with immense societal impact. Our research focuses on designing, inventing and building next generation artificial intelligence (AI), and creating AI to transform healthcare, aging and accessibility, cyber security, and more. The Lab is co-located with the Watson Health and IBM Cybersecurity headquarters in Cambridge, MA. It is in walking distance to some of the world’s most innovative startups, prestigious universities and research centers, and preeminent hospitals. Video Comprehension

The goal of this work is to develop capabilities toward fully automated video comprehension. IBM researchers are working closely with researcher's from MIT's Brain and Cognitive Sciences department as well as MIT’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Lab to develop machines that can emulate the human ability to understand inputs from multiple video streams and predict potential future events in real-time. These efforts involve using AI capabilities such as visual Q&A, and generative models for simulated worlds to train computers to recognize actions such as falling, opening, kicking, etc. in short videos.

This research focuses on the impact of technologies, their application in society and in the life of the aging population and persons with disabilities. IBM researchers are building and testing sensor networks to collect and learn patterns of how and when the elderly wake up in the morning, eat breakfast, exercise or take medication. Data collected from these sensor networks enable IBM scientists to explore how AI can improve and transform eldercare and care for disabled individuals.

Deep Learning in the Cloud

To date, deep learning has mainly been conducted across high performance computing environments where hardware is specialized, clusters are single tenant, and software is written with the assumption that failures are rare. Cloud computing, on the other hand, enables us to push the boundary on what can be done with commodity hardware in multi-tenant environments with software that is more and more modular and designed to expect failure. This research is looking at the intersection of AI workloads and the cloud software stack. How far can we take AI in the cloud? What doors does it open?

The closest parking is The Cambridgeside Galleria Mall garage. From 75 Binney Street, take the first right onto Third St. and then the second right on Charles St. Charles St. becomes Cambridgeside Place after crossing First St. The Galleria garage will be on your left halfway down the block. It is a 5-minute walk to Binney Street.

The next closest garage is the 301 Binney Street Garage (pilgrimparking.com). To get there, continue on Binney Street past IBM for three blocks. The garage will be on your right.
