IBM Research – India, located in Delhi and Bangalore, is looking for outstanding researchers in computer science and related areas who want to work on real-world problems leading to solutions that make a direct and measurable impact. We are seeking applications for Research Staff Members positions from fresh and experienced researchers in the areas of information and knowledge management, interaction and collaboration technologies, systems management, distributed and high performance computing, software engineering, analytics and optimization, services innovation, and telecommunications. Successful candidates should have a PhD in computer science or equivalent, and an exceptional tract record demonstrated by publications, patents, and technical impact, IBM Research – India also offers internship to students, both from Indian institutes and foreign universities.

Researcher- Information management

The goal of our research group is to contribute to Information Management related Software products from IBM in the areas of Information Integration, analytics, BI and unstructured information analysis. These goals require the application of innovative technology in developing new offerings and features to address important customer problems.

  • Ph.D in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering from a leading institute.
  • Good track record of publications in top notch conferences and journals
  • Strong record of technical depth and leadership in - Information Management area
  • Skills / area of expertise:
    • Candidate should have skills in the areas of database systems, knowledge/information management, data mining, BI, information retrieval, information extraction, cloud computing or related topics.
    • Candidate should have experience in architecting and developing scalable systems for information management.
    • Candidates should be able to recognize complex problems related to functional objectives. Formulate and analyze the problem in technical terms and implement solutions, or develop new system elements, procedures or processes. should be able generate highly novel ideas (theoretical or experimental) in a specific engineering or scientific discipline and/or invents/designs complex products and/or processes.They may be involved in designing and engineering these ideas to an advanced state of feasibility by evaluating ideas and plans and participating in their implementation.
    • Should demonstrate ability and inclination to work with diverse, multi-disciplinary teams to build real systems and demonstrations.
    • Experience with proposing and leading large research efforts will be good.
    • Experience with creating business cases and taking research innovations to market will be a bonus.

Researcher - Infrastructure Management Services
  • Ph.D in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering from a leading institute.
  • Good track record of publications in top notch conferences and journals
  • Strong record of technical depth and leadership in -- Infrastructure Management Services area
  • Skills / area of expertise:
    • Network architecture (Topology, Protocols), security, service delivery under bandwidth constraints
    • Software architecture (J2EE / Web Services / Component Oriented Architecture)
    • Application resource profiling
    • Capacity Planning
    • Server Consolidation/Virtualization for performance, security, ease of management
    • Normative frameworks for SLA representation, management, and enforcement
    • Health Monitoring (Systems, process, application, transaction level)
    • Fault diagnosis and localization
    • Peer-to-Peer based operations, management and control of large infrastructures
    • Modeling
    • Data Center Optimization (power, cooling, space)
    • The candidate should have research orientation and proven track records in identifying and solving research challenges specific to systems management. Also should have strong record of patents and publications in leading conferences and journals

Researcher - Parallel programming
  • Expertise in migrating serial code (domain-specific) to multicore platforms
  • Compiler techniques for high performance computing
  • programming models
  • enterprise application refactoring for performance are desired
  • Experience and interest in building large software system is a must
  • Knowledge in c/c++, and Java is essential

Required skills:

  • Qualifications: Must be a Phd preferably from a reputed institution in India or Tier 1 school in US
  • Strong communication skills - written and oral
  • Must have min. 4-6 years of relevant research experience in multicore platforms , compiler techniques for high performance computing
  • Must have some publications in top rated International conferences in the relevant area
