Cloud native
computing

For cloud native development, the decomposition of applications to loosely coupled microservices promises agility and insight. In 2016 IBM Research pioneered a programmable microservice integration fabric that led to the joint creation of ISTIO as a collaboration between IBM, Google and Lyft (2017). Our scientists continue to shape the evolution of ISTIO to provide a powerful cloud native platform for developers.

Serverless computing disrupts cloud computing by using a simplified programming model to reduce costs for development and operations. OpenWhisk, IBM’s open-source serverless computing platform, provides “instant infrastructure” for developers.
