Overview

The System/390 (IBM eServer zSeries) represents a significant component of the IBM product line. The Research Division is involved in the design of future S/390 microprocessors. Research plays a major role in the electrical and physical design of major components of these processors, providing a high degree of expertise in advanced high performance circuit designs. In addition, the Research Division is involved in design automation tools and methodologies as well as the infrastructure required to support modern high-frequency processor designs. Because of its involvement in other processor designs, Research is also involved in working towards commonality in design tools and methodology among the Yorktown, Poughkeepsie, and Austin design teams. Finally, members of the team also provide clock distribution designs for all contemporary IBM microprocessors.
