IBM demonstrates regional weather forecasting at SC98
Observations for comparison to RAMS results

Results from RAMS on the previous page showed a prediction of weather for the Hawaii area for March 4 and 5.  The images and animations below depict observations for part of that period.  The images are from about 1900 UTC (9 AM HST).  For comparison purposes, look at satellite observations from GOES-10 for this period.  First, in the infrared then in more detail in the visible.  A sequence of the infrared images can also be viewed.

The following image is in the visible from GOES-10.  A sequence of the visible images can also be viewed..  Qualitatively, the correspondence between the observations and the predictions is good.

A presentation of just radar observations is shown below.  A sequence of the radar images can also be viewed.
