IBM demonstrates regional weather forecasting at SC98

Observations for comparison to RAMS results

Results from RAMS on the previous page showed a prediction of weather for Texas for January 13.  The images and animation below depict observations for part of that period.  For comparison purposes, look at satellite observations from GOES-8, first, in the infrared and then in the visible.  A sequence of the infrared images can also be viewed.  One can see signatures of the front that was predicted by RAMS.

The following image is in the visible from GOES-8.  Qualitatively, the correspondence between the observations and the predictions is good.

A presentation of just radar observations is shown below later in the day.  The predicted front is visible in the southeastern portion of Texas near Houston.
