Welcome to the IBM Research Weather Modelling Group
|
The mission of the weather modelling group at IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Center is to utilize the latest developments in meteorology and information technology to enable reliable, affordable numerical predictions for customer applications. We are part of the on-going initiative in Deep Computing -- to provide the ability to analyze large amounts of data and develop solutions to very complex problems.
We have five focus areas, which are outlined on the left. Additional information about some of our work is available by clicking on a specific topic, especially for Deep Thunder.
As part of the Deep Thunder project, we are producing operational, local, 24-hour forecasts as fine as 1 to 2 km resolution for several metropolitan areas in the United States.
These include New York City, Chicago, Kansas City, Atlanta, Baltimore/Washington
and Miami/Fort Lauderdale, among others, which are typically updated twice each day.
A sample for New York City can be seen at the upper right.
If you are interested in seeing the current results for any of these predictions, please contact us.
Limited, real-time access to some of the forecasts generated by the Deep Thunder service are available to the public via IBM alphaWorks.
