Honors

• Ioana Boier-Martin and Fausto Bernardini's ACM SIGGRAPH paper "Cut-and-Paste Editing of Multiresolution Surfaces" was selected as one of IBM Research's 2002 Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, and Mathematical Sciences Best Paper Awards.



• Joan Mitchell, 2001, was named an IBM Fellow at the Corporate Technical Recognition Event (CTRE). This is the company's highest technical honor.

• Laurent Balmelli has been appointed Vice-Chairman of the IEEE Westchester chapter.

 
• Holly Rushmeier has been appointed to the ACM Publications Board. She has also joined the editorial board of the new journal ACM Transactions on Applied Perception.

 
• Holly Rushmeier has been elected to the Eurographics Executive Committee. She will serve on the committee through 2005.

 
• Aleksandra Mojsilovic, IEEE Signal Processing Society Young Author Best Paper Award for 2001.

 
• Fred Mintzer has been elected President of the IEEE Signal Processing Society. He will begin a term as President Elect in 2002 and as President in 2004. The IEEE Signal Processing Society provides the technical community with IEEE activities in signal processing, speech processing, image processing and other signal-processing-related areas. With over 20,000 members, the Signal Processing Society is the fourth largest IEEE Society.

 
• Gabriel Taubin, 2001, IEEE Fellow, "For contributions to the development of three-dimentional geometry compression technology and multimedia standards.

 
• Fred Mintzer was awarded an IEEE Third Millennium Medal, in 2000, for "outstanding achievements and accomplishments."

 
• Fred Mintzer was elected to the Board of Governors of the IEEE Signal Processing Society for 2000-2002.

 
• Bernice Rogowitz, 2000, IS&T Fellow, "For her important contributions in the area of visualization."

 
• Fred Mintzer, 1999, IEEE Fellow, "For contributions to the development of digital libraries, digital watermarking, and multirate signal processing."

 
• Joan Mitchell, 1999, IEEE Fellow, "For contributions to the development of international image compression standards."

 
• Fred Mintzer served as VP Finance Chair of the IEEE Signal Processing Society from 1996 until 1999.

• Chris Morris received the Best Paper Award at IEEE Visualization 2002 for his co-authored paper "Non-Photorealistic Volume Rendering Using Stippling Techniques".

• Laurent Balmelli, Gabriel Taubin, and Fausto Bernardini received the Gunter Enderle Award (best technial paper) at Eurographics 2002 for their paper "Space-Optimized Texture Maps".

• Jose Gomes and Aleksandra Mojsilovic received a Best Paper Award at the 7th European Conference on Computer Vision 2002 for their paper "A Variational Approach to Recovering a Manifold from Sample Points.

• IBM HotMedia wins PC EXPO 2000 Best of Show award.

• The State Hermitage Museum web site was voted "best site overall" at the Museums and the Web 2000 conference of the Archives & Museums Informatics.

• IBM 3D Interaction Accelerator won the Best New Product Award at the 1995 National Design Engineering Show.
