Christopher Collins
Research Intern
Christopher Collins is a PhD candidate in computational linguistics, information
visualization, and human-computer interaction at the University of Toronto,
where he received his M.Sc. in the area of computational linguistics. His thesis
research involves investigating interactive visualizations of linguistic data
with a focus on convergence and coordination of multiple views of data to
provide enhanced insight. He has developed various methods for generating,
reading, and comparing visual summaries of text data, including books (
DocuBurst
),
for everyday users and data analysts.
Recent publications include a new method for revealing relationships amongst
visualizations (
VisLink
),
and a system for exposing the uncertainty in statistical natural language
systems (
Translation
Chat
). He recently embarked on a study of visualization use in a team of
machine translation researchers and plans to continue collaboration with
language engineers to provide them with an enhanced ability to analyze and
improve their algorithms.
