Welcome to the meshing project's webpage! Sorry for our sudden question, but

do you know the meaning of "meshing" ?

If no, you are so lucky to have a chance to know about it !!

Meshing is a software technique for dividing a 2D/3D region
into a set of small triangular (or quadrilateral) elements,
and datasets generated by the technique.

We are not sure if you understand what kind of applications meshing technique is used for. The following page shows it.

The page shows that meshing technique is used for very various applications. (This page is somewhat heavy because it includes many images.)


This project has been started when we proposed the Bubble Mesh method , which automatically generates well-shaped triangular meshes. Recently we are focusing quadrilateral meshing, which is much more difficult than triangular meshing, and we have proposed the

Square Packing method

for generating well-shaped and well-aligned quadrilateral meshes.

The square packing method assumes virtual square particles, which have attractive and repulsive forces. This method first scatters the particle inside a given domain, and calculates the equation between the forces of them. The location of the tightly packed particles is finally obtained, and a quadrilateral mesh is obtained by connecting the centers of the particles. The quadrilateral mesh is suitable for finite element analysis (FEA) since it is well-shaped and well-aligned.

Our novel techniques have been demonstrated at

SIGGRAPH '98 Exhibition

that is the world-largest conference for computer graphics technology. Contents of the demonstration is introduced in this paper. Have a fun !!

This demonstration has been also shown at other many exhibitions, such as IBM fair '98, TRL Openhouse '99, and so on.
