Hiroshi Horii

Researcher,
Programming Models & Tools Team

I am a researcher in the Business Platform Computing Group in Tokyo Research Laboratory. This group studies transaction processing technologies for business applications. Lately I have been working on the Failure Free Facility Project that focuses on the non-stop transaction processing with high speed failover/failback technologies.

Research Interests

  • High Performance Transaction Processing:
We have built the transactional cache for high performance transaction processing. In current web-based systems, one of the greatest obstacles for performance is database processing. By using our transactional cache, transactions are processed with few database processing.
  • Distributed Computing
I studied distributed computing at university. The main topics were performance estimation methods for MPI programs. Hopefully this knowledge will be applied to my current projects.
  • Model Driven Testing Framework
Currently model driven testing is fashionable topic. We recognize the necessity of it for the distributed computing and the transaction processing from our experiences. We are implementing this testing framework for our project products and it will popularize the technologies.

Personal

Aside from my research, I have a great passion for Japanese sweets and tennis.

  • My current favorites are Dorayaki from Ueno Usagiya, Daifuku from Okano Eisen Toranomon and Ann-Pann (Japanese red bean filled bun) from Matoba!! If you are in Japan, I strongly recommend to try them all!!!
  • Tennis is very exciting sports. Many people of TRL play tennis. Of course I am one of them. I like playing tennis and recently watching professional games. My dream is to watch all tournaments of the Grand Slam on each spot.
