When exiting the covered station area at Chuorinkan Station, look for:
- a Tokyu Store
(That's Tokyu with a U, not Tokyo) right in front of you, with a Tully's Coffee on the left hand side of the Tokyu Store entrance.
- a McDonalds
to your right hand side, and a 7-11 convenience store next-next door to McDonald's.
*** If you don't see these landmarks, you have exited 180 degrees in the wrong direction. ***
Some people say a helpful hint is: "Follow the direction taken by most of the guys with business suits on".
From Chuorinkan to IBM:
- Cross to the street towards Tokyu and Tully's coffee shop, and keep walking straight, passing by Tully's on your right hand side.
- Cross the street and walk past the parking lot, a tiny park and a few shops on your right hand side. You will arrive at a T-intersection with a stop light.
- Cross the street and turn to the right hand side. You will come to a regular intersection with stop lights. There is a small family-run dry cleaning shop with lots of business shirt lockers just before the corner.
- Turn to your left and keep heading as far as you can go until you hit an L-intersection.
- You can only go one way -- to your right.
- When you reach the next corner, you will see a Victor factory across the street and the IBM complex.
Back entrance (open until 10:00 a.m., re-opens at 4:30 p.m.)
The back entrance is closest to TRL (Building B, 4th floor), however it closes at 10:00 a.m. sharp and does not re-open until 4:30 p.m.. It is along the same street as the Victor factory. Visitors with an IBM badge may proceed to the B-building and call their host using the internal phone in the lobby by dialing the last 4 digits of the host's phone number.
Main entrance:
There is no receptionist for the B-building, so visitors without an IBM badge must to register at the front desk in the A-building near the main entrance. The receptionist will contact the host.
Caution about Nagatsuda vs. Chuorinkan:
If you are taking the purple Hanzomon Line that connects with the Denen-toshi Line from Shibuya, make sure you are on an express train, because there are no obvious opportunities during rush hour to move to an express once you are past Shibuya. During off-peak times (11:30-3:30), transfers between local and express trains are acocomodated - they are usually announced and scheduled to be across the same platform. Express trains come approximately every 10-15 minutes and save you 30 minutes.
Some expresses stop at Nagtsuda. If the station where you are forced off is covered and a dead-end, then you are at Chuorinkan. If not, you're at Nagatsuda -- wait for the next (non-express) train (usually, but not always directly across the platform) to take you to Chuorinkan.
Taxi cab option:
If it's raining or you are tired, a cab from Chuorinkan to IBM only costs around 650 -700 yen. Write IBM on a piece of paper if the cab driver doesn't understand English by a native speaker. On rainy days you might have to wait 10-15 minutes in line at the taxi stand, because of a long queue.
- Warning:
- Quite often there are NO TAXIS at Tsukimino Station. Some visitors disembark at Tsukimino Station since IBM is mid-way between Chuorinkan and Tsukimino. The train fare is the same for both stations when coming in from Shibuya.
We look forward to your visit.
