IBM Research - Tokyo opened its doors in 1982 as the Japan Science Institute (JSI) in Sanbancho, Tokyo. In 1993 IBM Research - Tokyo moved to Yamato, Kanagawa. As IBM's first research laboratory in Asia, IBM Research - Tokyo is a member of IBM's global research community of 3,000 people at locations including Yorktown Heights, San Jose, and Austin in the United States, and in Switzerland, Israel, China, India, Brazil, and Japan. At present, our researchers play important roles in meeting the challenge of contributing positively to society and IBM's success through research.
