Shared University Research (SUR) Program
Under the Shared University Research (SUR) Program, IBM donates its equipment (servers, storage systems, PCs, etc.) to universities that conduct leading-edge research and supports their research activities.
Faculty Awards
Faculty Awards are designed to support development of distinguished research and skills by presenting awards to university professors and officially commending them.
IBM Japan Science Prize
IBM Japan Science Prize, created in 1987, recognizes researchers aged 45 or younger who work for universities or public research institutes in Japan, with the aim of contributing to basic research and the development of young researchers. The Awards cover basic research in physics, chemistry, computer science (including bioinfomatics), and electronics (including bioelectronics).
The Amagi University Presidents' Forum
The Amagi University Presidents' Forum is a symposium that brings together the presidents of national, prefectural, municipal, and private universities nationwide to discuss the future of universities. IBM Japan has provided conference venues and taken on organizational work since 1983.
Services Sciences, Management and Engineering
IBM is advocating Services Sciences, Management and Engineering, a new branch of learning, throughout the world. Services Sciences applies scientific research to services and uses scientific methods to understand the characteristics of services, increase service productivity, and realize innovations in services in a systematic way. Through a partnership among industry, government and academia, IBM Research - Tokyo is leading discussions to establish services sciences as a branch of learning by hosting symposiums related to the discipline in Japan.
Academic Initiative Program
Under the Academic Initiative program, IBM provides educators and researchers at high-level research organizations worldwide with IBM's software, technological information, and teaching aids required for education and research - free of charge.
Scholars Challenge Program, ACM Programming Contest and IBM Accessibility ODF Coding Challenge
IBM supports students' research activities by holding such competitions as the Scholars Challenge Program, the ACM Programming Contest, and the IBM Accessibility ODF Coding Challenge.
The Ph.D. Fellowship Program
The Ph.D. Fellowship Program offers tuitions and scholarships for graduate students engaged in advanced research to obtain a doctorate.
Internship System
IBM Research - Tokyo has a unique Internship System to promote joint research between its own researchers and outstanding researchers worldwide. IBM Research - Tokyo invites applications for visiting researchers (with a doctorate who are engaged in research for a certain period of time) and student researchers (graduate students engaged in research for a short period of time) in Japan and abroad.
