Silicon Germanium (SiGe)
overview how it works future applications for researchers

IBM is working with large manufacturers such as Nortel and Hughes to develop products that will exploit the high-performance, low-price ratios of SiGe semiconductor technology. Devices based on this IBM technology will be able to move data across networks at speeds traditionally considered beyond the reach of silicon technology. This will bring better performance at low costs to fiber transport networks, high-speed cellular voice/data phones, and wireless devices such as global positioning satellite receivers.
