Services Sciences, Management and Engineering

Oxford University: SSME Workshop (May 9 - 10, 2005)

IBM representatives met with over 20 people in our services ecosystem on the topic of services innovation and the emergence of Services Science, Management, and Engineering (SSME) in U.K. universities. The gathering was a solid step in asserting IBM's interest in developing SSME globally, as well as establishing a meeting format that can be easily replicated at other universities with an interest in services innovation.

Jim Spohrer led the conversations and made it clear that the need for a stronger foundation for services innovation is an issue that is not unique to IBM. Many other multi-national companies have expressed interest in -- and positive feedback for -- this effort. This is crucial as it will take a global and industry-wide effort to truly advance SSME to the next level.
