EECOMS is a large industry-consortium advanced technology project in supply chain integration for manufacturing.

EECOMS is a $29Million 3-year NIST ATP-funded industry consortium effort, led by IBM and begun in 1998, focused on business rules and human collaborative workflow, for business-to-business e-commerce in the domain of manufacturing supply-chain integration and agility. You can see the brief official EECOMS project announcement, or go to the main EECOMS website.

EECOMS is closely related to the CIIMPLEX project. CIIMPLEX is a nearly-completed $22Million 3-year NIST ATP-funded effort by the same industry consortium pursuing EECOMS. (The consortium, as well as this earlier project, is called CIIMPLEX.) Also led by IBM, the CIIMPLEX project focuses on an agent-based framework for integrated intelligent planning - execution in manufacturing. Early in its experience, the CIIMPLEX project identified challenges beyond its scope; this led to the EECOMS project as a follow-on. You can see the brief official CIIMPLEX project announcement, or go to the main CIIMPLEX website.

Acronyms: "EECOMS" stands for "Extended Enterprise coalition for integrated COllaborative Manufacturing Systems". "CIIMPLEX" stands for "Consortium for Integrated Intelligent Manufacturing PLanning and EXecution". "NIST" stands for the National Institute of Standards and Technology, a part of the U.S. Government's Department of Commerce. "ATP" stands for NIST's Advanced Technology Program, which spurs movement of major technologies from research to commercialization by funding industry on a matching basis.
