Online Demonstrations

The work of IBM Research extends far beyond our laboratories' walls. Our innovations garner awards and academic recognition, spawn entire industries and fuel some of the products and services that have made IBM the world's premier technology company.
Some of our inventions are just plain cool.
Listed below are some demonstrations of technologies and prototypes from our labs. Take them for a test drive and see what you can learn.
Text-to-Speech
Researchers are working to make synthesized speech as natural sounding as human speech. This demonstration provides a peek into the current text-to-speech capabilities. An interactive demo allows you to enter text and listen as it's immediately synthesized into speech; you can also listen to examples in several languages.
Deep Thunder Weather Modeling
Utilizing the latest developments in meteorology and information technology to enable reliable, affordable numerical predictions for customer applications, this on-going Deep Computing initiative provides the ability to analyze large amounts of data and develop solutions to very complex problems.
Bioinformatics
Explore protein annotation and gene expression through the Teiresias algorithm on one of the largest DB2 databases in the world. IBM's Bio-Dictionary™ allows you to analyze interrelated DNA sequences among several organisms.
Language Translation
With all the idioms and nuances of grammar, syntax and semantics that make a language unique, it should be no surprise that efforts to create computer programs that can translate one language into another have been under way for half a century. This Machine Translation demonstration allows you to translate a webpage of your choice.

IBM is the industry leader in innovation, a quality that permeates into all aspects of our work, not just our labs. Here are some other examples of this leadership.
alphaWorks provides a unique opportunity for developers worldwide to try out IBM's latest innovations. These emerging "alpha code" technologies are available for download or commercial licensing at the earliest stages of development - before release or integration into products - allowing users to evaluate and influence IBM research and development. Check out the latest demos and download emerging technologies in Java, XML, Web services, Wireless, Multimedia and more.
Turn to developerWorks, IBM's resource for developers, to help you unleash the full power of hardware and operating systems, bridge multiple platforms, and be more successful through the use of open standards and cross-platform technologies such as Java, Linux, Web Services, XML, Wireless, and open source projects. developerWorks offers articles, sample code, tutorials, tools, news, discussion forums, emerging "alpha" technologies -- virtually anything developers like you want and need to get your job done.
Pervasive computing is computing power freed from the desktop - embedded in wireless handheld devices, automobile telematics systems, home appliances, and commercial tools-of-the-trade. These demonstrations show IBM software helping to manage information and reduce complexity for a mobile workforce and a mobile society while extending timely business data to workers in the field and driving down costs in the enterprise.
