The HDTV Broadcast Technology project, funded jointly by the
US National Institute of Standards and Technology and several companies
developed software tools that permit end users to search, retrieve, and
browse archived standard definition (SD) and high definition (HD) TV
programs, in addition to building enabling technologies for HDTV content
creation and delivery. IBM Research was involved in this project to
build a novel HDTV video content management system that will allow
processing, editing, browsing, archival, and retrieval of HDTV data
compressed using the MPEG-2 standard, for content repurposing,
program production, and other interactive services in a digital
television studio.
