Service Level Agreements

The Océano project

SERVICE LEVEL AGREEMENT:

Service Level based monitoring and dynamic resource allocation can provide
many benefits to the hosted customers and to the service provider. Load and
performance data can be used to dynamically shift resources between
customers based on Service Level Agreement (SLA) commitments and penalties.
New pricing models can be based on guaranteed and/or best-effort level of
services, rather than a fixed set of physical resources, enabling flexible
resource sharing. SLA-based resource allocation may improve customer
satisfaction by increasing the ability of the provider to respond to
unanticipated load conditions at a low cost. This requires the monitoring,
aggregation, and analysis of load and throughput data. Sets of SLA policies
ensure that each customer's basic SLA requirements are met. Océano will
build a resource allocation utility that:
· Collects and utilizes SLA data;
· Monitors and processes SLA policies;
· Provides a scalable framework for monitoring resource status; and
· Provides application metric collectors for some standard e-commerce
software packages.
