Business-to-business interactions on the Internet are becoming more substantial, with increasing growth in the number of transactions and their monetary value. The software technology necessary to support this growth continues to expand, providing Web services and products to make e-business dynamic. This issue of the IBM Systems Journal is dedicated to recent developments in Web services and e-commerce. Papers related to Web services describe development tools, management, and security, and those related to e-commerce discuss flexible pricing, interoperability, access control, and private trading exchanges.
