Message from the Vice President,
Server Systems Development, IBM Server Group

The IBM eServer z900 has had a dramatic effect on the IBM server business. The delivery of this system began five consecutive quarters of growth for the zSeries server platform. In fact, in 2001 it was the first IBM mainframe platform in more than a decade to register full-year revenue growth.

The resurgence of the mainframe is not an accident. With advantages in total cost of ownership, flexibility, virtualization, and support of Linux, the z900 is the system of choice for customers seeking to develop their e-business capabilities.

Our world-class development team gave IBM a significant competitive advantage by delivering the next generation of mainframe computing, a remarkable achievement that was years in the making. The team has also created a legacy of innovation and technical leadership that will drive the future success of the zSeries. We couldn't be prouder.

Michael Desens
Vice President
