The Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. has on online exhibit American Treasures of the Library of Congress which includes many images of items of historical importance. IBM has also worked with the Library to make possible the collection of the many images in its online presentation of the Federal Theater Project collection.
The National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. makes available an online selection of images from its collection.
The Hebrew Union College through its Klau Library's (Cincinnati, Ohio) Dalsheimer Rare Book Exhibit maintains a collection of images from books, manuscripts, bookplates, and other items in the Library's permanent collection. An additional set of Passover Haggadah images are available separately.
In November, 1998, PC Week published a story about how Tiffany & Co. is using IBM technology, including the Pro/3000 Digital Imagins System, to produce high-quality images for the company intranet. An online version of the story is also available.
The online D-Lib Magazine, in its July/August, 1997 issue, included an article Safeguarding Digital Library Contents and Users: Digital Images of Treasured Antiquities which mentions a number of joint studies in which we have been involved. A second D-Lib Magazine article Safeguarding Digital Library Contents and Users: Digital Watermarking (December, 1997) describes a number of techniques for and applications of digital watermarking.
