Capturing the image
The Pro/3000 Digital Imaging System consists of a highly versatile
three-pass color digitizing scanner which can capture archival quality
high resolution images from transparencies, reflective media, or three
dimensional objects. The imaging system was designed and developed at
IBM's T.J. Watson Research Center and is based on a proprietary CCD
image sensor technology. The Pro/3000 camera interfaces to a copystand
illumination system to provide the user with variable resolution and a
high degree of flexibility.
The Pro/3000 Digital Imaging System
The Pro/3000 camera is capable of scanning either transparencies or
reflective art in monochrome or color, and can also scan three
dimensional objects. Formats from 35mm to 24 by 30 inches can be
accommodated. Even larger formats can be handled by a rotational
provision on the copystand. The Pro/3000 is easy to use with its
camera-like features such as the "through-the-lens viewfinder" which
provides accurate focusing and framing.
The IBM CCD technology provides exceptional 12 bit-per-pixel dynamic
range and state-of-the-art noise performance. These characteristics
coupled with the scanner's colorimetric output enable it to work well
for pre-press, museum cataloging, color labs, and scientific or
commercial imaging applications, and provide an image quality unmatched
by any commercially available scanner.
The CCD device, designed by Eugene S. Schlig at IBM Research, was
manufactured on IBM's silicon line in Yasu, Japan.
Real objects shooting booth
Our latest work includes scanning larger real objects. A
light booth
is used to provide the uniform lighting for a good image.
