ICME 2000 is an evolution of several IEEE multimedia conferences that took place on a regular basis in the past. Among them, the Computer Society's ICMCS and the Signal Processing Society's yearly multimedia workshop were meetings exclusively dedicated to multimedia. Both of these meetings will merge into ICME 2000. Additionally, Communications Society's ICC has had mini-workshops on multimedia, whereas Circuits and Systems Society's Technical Committee on multimedia has reguarly sponsored many multimedia related sessions in ISCAS.
