PRELIMINARY PROGRAM

The electronic marketplace is gaining its momentum to become the economic modus operandi for the next century as electronic commerce technologies and their applications advance. Nevertheless, the popular press is filled with topical and often sensational views of electronic commerce issues, while academic researches remain focused on specific, technical issues. As a result, there is a growing need for a more integrated perspective on how the on-going process innovations in electronic commerce will ultimately affect competition, business strategies and the profitability.

CREC's Conference on Electronic Marketplace and Economics is aimed at providing such an integrated perspective on the digital commerce. Its unprecedented focus on the electronic marketplace and the role of economic analysis will provide an opportunity to question and analyze popular electronic commerce paradigms and to meet the challenge of devising effective business strategies and policy frameworks. CEME '98 presents a unique interdisciplinary forum of researchers and industry practitioners surveying the new marketplace under the unifying theme of economics. Two-day sessions will examine analytic and experimental issues in production, product choice, pricing and consumption, intermediation and payment systems, and broader issues of market efficiency and monetary policy.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND
Whether you are concerned with intranets, extranets, Web marketing and advertising, e-commerce strategies and consulting, digital product manufacturing and distribution, or policy and research issues, a clear road map for the next decade is critical. CEME '98 will provide a unique forum for researchers, industry professionals and business decision makers by interpreting electronic commerce as a new form of marketplace and understanding its ramifications in broader aspects of business and economic activities. The Conference's focus is to provide a critical overview on what electronic commerce is and how it will affect product development, business processes, competition and strategic interplay in the digital age.

If you are tired of hearing over-hyped stories based on preconceptions regarding Web marketing, Internet security, privacy, spamming and other "popular" issues, this Conference will give you a fresh look into the radically new world of business and offer an integrated analytic foundation for effective evaluation and decision-making.
