Software Asset Management

Features

  • Provides developers with tools and services in the areas of Inventory, Search and Reuse, Impact Analysis, Sharing, and Collaboration.
  • Semantic Search Server – enables users to search for reusable assets using free text style queries, language semantic queries (e.g., search for all Java classes that inherit from class HttpServlet), and combined searches using boolean logic (and, or, not).
  • Enables users to perform impact analysis activities using the Semantic Search Server (e.g., find all projects that import a class from package P).
  • Enables users to browse the enterprise repository using a Yahoo-like category taxonomy.
  • Enables users to graphically navigate the hierarchy and reference relationships between Java classes.

Technical data sheet

  • Crawlers for WebDAV, ClearCase, File System, and TeamConnection. Crawlers are scheduled to crawl the domain at selected times. Automatic synchronization is performed between the crawled domain and the analyzed data in the database.
  • Analyzers for Java, JSP, C++, HTML, XML, Cobol, Java ClassFile, and Text.
  • Extensible framework – Asset Locator is designed as an extensible framework that easily allows users to extend its capability and customize its functionality. Using the Software Development Kit (SDK), customers can crawl into proprietary repositories, analyze additional development resource types, customize query logic and result presentation, and integrate the search, reuse, navigation, categorization, and impact analysis capabilities into third party client applications or portals.
  • Automatic categorization – applies automatic categorization of development resources into predefined domain taxonomies. Current support includes: Java, HTML, and XML.
  • Low cost / low maintenance, scalable solution – Asset Locator does not introduce any additional overhead for developers. After initialization (setting of the crawling roots), the crawling, analysis, and categorization processes are performed automatically without any human intervention. The use of DB2 for persistent storage and index server ensures the scalability of the solution.
