System Level Modeling
System Level Modeling for Hardware Software Co-Development

The Code Optimization group is currently working on an activity aimed at system-level performance modeling. Our idea is to perform system-level modeling for software-hardware development in which we look at certain aspects of interactions between application/OS software and the network. We introduced this activity using InfiniBand (IB) network chips that are currently being developed. We were able to produce reliable and flexible performance models of a number of chip architectures and deliver a comprehensive analysis of several performance issues. We will implement recommendations based on our performance analysis in future versions of these products.

  Future developments: Input Modeling

Our current performance simulations are based on hand-made input that does not necessarily represent real-world input behavior. We intend to address this gap by developing input models based on the actual monitoring and gathering of real and typical network application activity.
