Overview
Information Technology (IT) simplification is garnering more attention as it becomes critical to various businesses and their drive for better productivity and ROI.
Our activities in the area of IT simplification and user experience focus on:
- Introducing new technologies and methodologies that enable management simplification.
- Collaborating with other project teams to review and improve the user experience they offer and their management consoles.
The new technologies, developed in HRL, include the following:
- Policy-Based Management Engine – generic engine that allows the definition of pattern-based policies. These patterns reflect global behaviors of the system and enable the user to focus on the goal of the policy itself – instead of the low level details of how to make it happen.
- Light Integrated Console (LIC) – provides a framework with a rich set of views and widgets that can be leveraged by developers who need to quickly create a sleek console with no dependencies on management technologies, data models, etc.
Both technologies leverage the vast expertise we acquired in user experience and our long time work in system management.
We collaborate with other project teams, including AVOIR, RESERVOIR, Ensemble Manager, the multi-chassis management project, and more. One example of these collaborations is the LIC-based console that was used in the 2009 CeBIT demo of RESERVOIR.
Believing that the end-user is the ultimate judge of our technology's value, we advocate the methodology of User-Driven Design (UDD), which roots the development work in the user perspective.
