IT systems within a single organization have become very complex in the amount and type of dependencies. The vision is to advance towards reducing this complexity by enabling the following properties:

  • Supporting a seamless, easy-to-use model of expressing context-sensitive dependencies, and attaching to it dependency discovery modules where applicable
  • Supporting a model that gives a multi-level (hierarchical) view of all the transitive dependencies
  • Supplying an intelligent component that infers rules (including actions) from the dependencies graph
  • Supplying a dependency visualization tool

The idea (in a somewhat simplistic manner) is that dependencies are considered as universal laws. Whenever such a law is violated, by any transformation of the current state, the system should reflect upon its own knowledge about the nature of the dependency, and its own context, and determine an action that will restore the stability of the system with respect to its laws. Such an action may be simple (send an update operation to some database, however, the type of update may be context-sensitive), or complex (activate a load balancing algorithm, and re-assign all jobs according to the results of the algorithm).

Some of the applications that can be supported with this technology are:
  • Proactive management: Prediction of the impact of events on the overall system
  • Monitoring of service level agreements
  • Data dependencies: Integration, derivation, and transformation
  • Enforcement of business constraints
