The issues of privacy and security in long term data preservation require a more robust approach than those for more short term data storage. In particular, healthcare data needs to be preserved for the lifetime of a patient. Over this period, the privacy regulations will most likely change, medical terminology will evolve, and even issues of anonymization will change over time.
The ENSURE project investigates many issues in long term data preservation for enterprises, and the Information Privacy and Security group handles the privacy and security issues in partnership with Custodix. The main contributions will be in extending the XACML architecture and developing new content-aware data protection (CADP) access control and anonymization techniques that will be robust in the face of long term changes in the environment and society.
