Websphere Portal Search Engine

WebSphere Portal provides a Portal Search Engine to facilitate indexing and searching for information. The Search Engine has been significantly enhanced with new features. These are some of the key features of the Portal Search Engine:

  • Overall enhanced search capabilities
    • Crawl one or more Web or Intranet sites for the purpose of indexing the content/pages
    • Provide internet style search capabilities, for example:
      • Free text search
      • Use of internet style plus ( + ) and minus ( - ) symbols
      • Use of internet style double quotes ( " ) for phrases
      • Specification of trailing wild card character
    • Enable browsing of collections
    • Supply enriched result page view including summaries and other relevant metadata
    • Allow for categorization of incoming documents using either a predefined static taxonomy, or a simple rules based taxonomy which can be defined by the user
    • Apply filter rules for the crawler to determine what pages are to be fetched and indexed
    • Optionally approve documents before they are added to the collection and the index
    • Allow editing of document metadata
    • Collect documents from multiple sites into a single collection
    • Configure periodic crawls per site
    • Start and stop crawls manually
    • Enhanced monitoring of document collection process
    • Enhanced language support
  • Specification of socks and proxy server for indexing external sites in the portlet
  • Summarizer
  • Predefined static taxonomy and categorizer
