Juru - Generic Full-text Java Search Engine

Juru is a full-text search library entirely written in Java and dedicated to small/mid-size collections where precision is a must. It efficiently applies state-of-the-art search algorithms producing highest-quality search results. The use of Java allows easy integration with cross-platform applications. It also enables developers to incorporate new document types and to easily develop new user interfaces. Juru's advanced features include:

  • Improved search precision by incorporating lexical affinities
  • Query refinement
  • Utilization of link information for Intranet search
  • Summarization of search results
  • Clustering of search results
  • Static index pruning - an innovative method that enables pruning the index down to a user specified size which is very useful for small devices as well as for very large text collections (see publications).

Juru has been successfully applied in several applications including a supermarket catalog (ASDA), eSearch - a helpdesk solution for searching Q&A collections (e.g. FAQs), domain specific search on the World Wide Web, a search engine for hand held devices (PDAs), as well as for Intranet search at HRL's internal web site.
