Anomaly and Fraud Detection in Energy Data

Smart meters that measure electricity consumption in frequencies that are rather high (in the range between minutes and hours) are widely used all over the world. The data gathered from these meters is huge and can be used for several applications as part of a revenue assurance platform for electricity providers. In particular, identification of various anomalies, especially such that can indicate fraud (tampering, bypass and more) or broken meters can be of great help to the providers. We are working with an electricity provider of a small European country on development of such a platform, based on smart analytics and anomaly detection methods. An additional ongoing effort with another provider of an additional small European country is currently taking place.
