SmartKey - A Set of Operator Productivity Tools

The SmartKey toolkit, developed by IBM Haifa, enables fast and accurate manual correction of automatic data entry results by taking advantage of characteristics of human perception in error detection. The result is a data acquisition procedure that is very efficient and virtually error-free (equivalent to double operator key-in).

SmartKey - Carpets
Characters that are "suspected" of being "1" (but not with a high enough probability) are gathered from many different forms into a "carpet". The operator can easily and quickly deal with a large number of rejected forms in one screen.

SmartKey - Triplets
The handwriting style of unidentified characters is revealed by showing the operator the preceding and successive characters as a triplet of characters, enabling efficient recognition by dealing with many rejected characters at once on one screen.

SmartKey - Fields
The immediate context of unidentified/rejected characters is revealed by showing the operator the full field in which the character appears, many on one screen.

SmartKey - Forms
In the rare cases when all possible shortcuts to character identification fail, we resort to full form display (the traditional data verification / correction).
