Development Support - XIV

Description:
IBM XIV is a grid-based high-end storage product. The team is seeking a development support person to provide deep technical research, debug services for 2nd level support engineers via a ticketing system, and offer email and remote support. Based on an understanding of the issue at hand, the candidate will summarize the root cause analysis, recommend workarounds and action plans to the field, and then work alongside the product engineering to pursue final resolution of the issue in the code/hardware of the product.
In addition, the candidate might be required to:
- Write detailed knowledgebase articles about the new issues encountered in the field
- Use lab equipment to recreate field issues
- Develop and deliver education to the L2 & L1 engineers about new and existing features of the product
- Develop tools in Bash and/or Python for L2 & L3 support engineers to debug and overcome issues in the field
- Travel abroad occasionally
The position includes extensive training during which the candidate will learn the product itself as well as the ways to troubleshoot it. Following that, the job will be executed with support form the knowledge and expertise of the IBM XIV engineers as well as personal knowledge and experience in the IT & Storage areas. Requirements:
Linux (preferably) or any flavor of UNIX - 5 years of experience:
- Solid understanding of the OS and its internals
- Advanced administration (Linux/UNIX services, storage administration)
- Fluency with the command line,
- Fair knowledge of text manipulation tools (grep, awk, sed, vi, regex)
- Scripting experience (any of: bash, python, perl)
Storage:
- Storage management experience - 1 year at least
- SAN, NAS concepts: ideas behind block/network storages, CIFS, NFS, multipathing, LUNs, Zoning, WWPN
- Understanding of storage protocols: FC, SCSI, iSCSI,
- RAID array levels
- Desired: Fabric management experience
