Description:
This position involves participating and leading research and technical projects in the Systems Engineering Technologies group at HRL. The selected candidate will be responsible for research tasks such as the development of methods, languages, algorithms, principles, and more in the field of systems engineering and using systems engineering tools. Systems engineering envelops all engineering aspects of projects including requirements, analysis, multi-disciplinary (software, hardware, mechanics, hydraulics, aerodynamics, thermal, electrical, etc.) design, safety, reliability, maintenance, etc. In addition, the position may include defining technical requirements and designing and implementing tool prototypes for the above research products. Paper and patent generation is also expected.

Requirements:

• PhD in engineering or applied science (physics, math) field (strong MSc candidates will also be considered)
• Strong academic and/or research background in relevant areas, including complex architectures and systems, modeling (Languages and Model Driven Development), formal languages, operations research, and applied math
• At least three years of industrial experience, preferably as a systems engineer or architect of projects with hardware, software, and mechanical components
• "Technology freak" with a high level of technical excellence
• Strong collaboration skills with team members, internal/external partners, and clients
• Good understanding of Java/C++/C# or a similar OO language is essential (albeit the position does not necessarily include coding)
• High level written and spoken English
