Project Overview

The mission of these projects is to enable Linux to efficiently support enterprise level applications. These include business centric applications in which application availability, vertical and complete solutions, and customer service are important. In particular, the work involves both the traditional applications such as web, file, and print servers as well as database, e-commerce (websphere), and directory services.

The focus of this department is enterprise support within the core kernel and the middleware. As an example, we are examining the scalability of the core kernel with respect to increased load and cpu numbers. We are working on quality of service issues within the networking protocol. We are also examining our application and technology portfolio to identify where they can be applied in the Linux domain. For instance, we posted in-kernel caches to Linux for web service acceleration.

Many of these projects are done in close collaboration with IBM's Linux Technology Center.
