Applications of Everywhere Displays

General display   on table
The projector can be used to create a display on any surface, such as tables, desks, and walls.
On the left we see a Freelance presentation being projected on a desk (we covered the desk with paper to enhance the quality of the projection). Users can interact with the content using a wireless mouse or the camera-based interface.

Interactive whiteboard   on wall
The display can be projected into walls or whiteboards, for group viewing.

Notification   e-mail notification
Notification messages can be projected onto any surface on a room, to attract the attention of the user. If the system is combined with a system able to track the position of people in the environment, the messages can be displayed on the surfaces that allow maximal visibility.

Location-specific information   phone book projected
Everywhere displays can be used to bring information and computer interaction to the proximity of where that information is used. Here, BluePages is project in front of the telephone, so the user can easily access the directory before dialing. Ideally, the phone directory could be automatically projected whenever the user picks up the phone.

Location-specific information   database projected on table
Here, the computer database corresponding to the contents of the file cabinet is displayed on the top of the cabinet, facilitating search of files and the updating of the database.

Signaling   emergency sign projected
Using everywhere displays, it is possible to project information and signals on walls and floors. The projector allows easily update and reconfiguration of signaling, as well as personalized delivery of information about the space. For instance, a visitor can be guided to a specific location in a building by arrows projected in the corridors.
Here, we see an emergency exit arrow being projected on the carpet of an office. Notice that even though the carpet is dark and patterned, it is still possible to clearly visualize the arrow.

Locating Equipment   pointing to camera
If the location of equipment is know to the computer system, the projector can help locating the equipment by pointing to its location.
Here, we see the response of the system for a request of the location of a digital camera. After pointing, the system can project a checkout list, so the status of the equipment is promptly and easily logged.

Deviceless Remote Controls   hand interaction
By projecting buttons and dials on surfaces it is possible to control other appliances in the space without having to use remote controls.
Here we see an example where the user controls the volume of the environmental sound by dragging a slider with his hand.
