Game 4, white
34.Rb1
Commentary for white move 34:
MAURICE ASHLEY: Garry is so happy to exchange queens it's
ridiculous. I've never seen Garry like this.
MAURICE ASHLEY: Garry, if he gives up the queen it's usually a
brilliant sacrifice or a completely winning ending --
DB MOVE: 34 Rb1
MAURICE ASHLEY: These paradoxical exchanges for material --
for
position, pawn for position, but endgames, endgames have been
quite interesting how Garry is readily going to this -- so
often. We see it in practically all the games of the match.
YASSER SEIRAWAN: And a new move by --
MAURICE ASHLEY: A new move has been played by Deep Blue,
an
improvement of the rook. The rook has now moved to b1, put it
on an open file, R from d1 to b1. And Kasparov now has to be a
little concerned because Deep Blue is playing quickly, and he
has to now make six moves in how many minutes? His time has to
be ticking down, and he has to also be concerned -- Susan
Polgar, women's world champion, when she gave me her
comment
that she's not sure about what's going on, she sees
compensation for black indeed, as she put it succinctly, a pawn
is a pawn.
YASSER SEIRAWAN: A pawn is a pawn.
MAURICE ASHLEY: And Deep Blue's got a pawn. And if the
exchanges or the play does not go the way Garry /KA*PZ wants
it
to go, he might be down a pawn. Right now we don't see that,
right now it looks as if he's got everything under control, and
he should lose his seven minutes left -- 7:14 and counting down
to make his next six moves. So he wants to be very accurate
right now, Yaz, doesn't want anything to slip by all the sudden
and the evaluation go off the scale.
