Game 1, black
10...h6

Commentary for black move 10:

Mr. ASHLEY: Yaz, and Mike, you had said something earlier about how much the computer valued bishops. And it seems as if it hadn't played the move h6, Kasparov might have taken the opportunity to play the move g4, right. Let's say in the event of some other developing moves like Qe7, Kasparov might have been able to play the move g4 and after Bg6, Nh4, thereby collecting the beneficiary on g6. Would that be the major consideration that would make it commit with h6?

Mr. VALVO: Definitely. And that may come up in the game at some point further on down. The computer will do strange things like play h6 in a solid position like this just to protect its bishop. And you won't see it because it didn't occur in the game but it occurred in the analysis underneath.

Mr. ASHLEY: Kasparov has made a move. He'd played the queen away from d1 to e1, with seemingly your intention, and he's again gotten up from the board, and seems very comfortable, it's a kind of situation he knows what to do, he doesn't have to calculate too much, he's going to follow a plan in this position and it seems he's ready to play the move e3-e4.

Real-time text commentary is made possible by LiveNote, Inc. and Vincent Varallo Associates
