With the emergence of e-commerce, the world has experienced fundamental shifts in business and trade. In 1999 IBM formed the The Institute for Advanced Commerce (IAC) to address market and business concerns with a goal of developing long-term reproducible commerce solutions to meet corporate needs.
IBM Research is also exploring and making advancements in Internet auctions, virtual reality commerce, micropayment technology over the Internet, e-coupons and promotions, and electronic data interchanges (EDI).
