IBM Research Announces Recipient of the 2003 Josef Raviv Memorial Postdoctoral Fellowship

IBM Research is pleased to announce that Matthias Ruhl of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, MA is the recipient of the 2003 Josef Raviv Memorial Postdoctoral Fellowship. Dr. Ruhl's dissertation is entitled "Efficient Algorithms for New Computational Models". He has chosen to spend his postdoctoral year at the IBM Almaden Research Center in California investigating the topic of his choice: combinatorial algorithms and the properties of practically motivated computational models.

This year, the review committee, which consisted of senior researchers from the IBM Almaden, Austin, Haifa and Watson labs, received 48 applications from around the world. The high quality of these applications made the selection process a difficult one. All of the applicants should be congratulated for the exciting research they have done and propose to do. The committee would like to thank all the applicants and the many others who wrote letters of support.

Background:

The 2003 Josef Raviv Memorial Postdoctoral Fellowship in Computer Science and Computer Engineering is in memory of Dr. Raviv, the founder and director of IBM's Haifa Research Laboratory. Dr. Raviv had a distinguished research career in Information Theory and was a pioneer in the Israeli high-tech industry.
