  Project description

Cell Awards and Honors

The Cell B.E. and its architects and designers have been recognized with a variety of awards and honors in recognition of its ground-breaking architecture and performance:

In 2004, the S/T/I Cell development team was recognized as the "Best Development Team" by the EE Times (Issue 1349).

In 2004, Cell received the 2004 Microprocessor Report Analysts' Choice Award for Best Technology. The Cell processor was chosen in recognition of its "incredible performance and scalability, and what is basically a vector supercomputer on a chip".

The 2005 presentation on Cell's novel SIMD architecture was a highest-rated presentation at Hot Chips 17.

In 2005, Cell received the Microprocessor Report Analysts' Choice Award for Best High-Performance Embedded Processor. The Cell processor was chosen in recognition of its "innovative design and future potential".

In 2006, Cell was chosen as an IEEE Spectrum Emerging Technology 2006 Winner.

In 2006, a cover story on the Cell design appeared in Forbes magazine. In 2007, a cover story on the Cell design process appeared in Electronics Design Chain under the title Sony's Dream Team, a term first used by the SCEI head Ken Kutaragi.

STI Cell design team members have been invited to give invited and keynote speeches at the High-Performance Computer Architecture HPCA-11 conference, Cool Chips VIII, the International Conference on Microarchitecture MICRO-38 conference, ACM Computing Frontiers 2006, Cadence Design Systems CDNLive Conference and Cool Chips X.
