  Research Projects

In China Research Laboratory, our research agenda can be categorized in the following five areas:

Research on how people, information, language and culture will interact.

We are entering an era where information technology will work for people. Natural computing will exploit technologies that will allow people to interact with information in the most natural forms and allow workers to be most effective in completing tasks and activities. Knowledge computing will research intelligent information management, bridging language and culture gaps, and allowing for the creation, sharing and reuse of knowledge.

Research on key technologies of future systems.

Computing systems will focus on embedded systems and key circuit core components. We also explore the notion of advanced systems for emerging market needs.

Research on how information technology could be broadly used and reliably serve critical missions.

Pervasive computing allows people to conduct information processing any where and any time, so multimedia information is becoming part of daily activities. The supporting infrastructure may be distributed, but has to address flexibility, scalability, reliability and many other autonomic features. A major challenge is how to make the information technology transparent to end users and simple for businesses to deploy and maintain. Hence, various programming models may affect the way that systems and applications are built and deployed. An example will be how service-oriented architecture may be used in application delivery.

Research on technologies and solutions that can greatly improve businesses.

Enterprises will continue to benefit from the power of e-business, but will require new capabilities to develop and execute new strategies, and offer more value to their customers. Business computing exploits new industry solutions enabled by technology advancements. This includes technologies and methods for business analytics and optimization, advanced value-add industry offerings, new industry frameworks and business components, and future enterprises and ecosystems.

Research on creating technologies and expertise that optimize the way we deliver value.

IBM helps clients to succeed by providing both products and services. Service computing aims to create technologies and methodologies that can advance service capabilities and effectiveness. We target advanced consulting capabilities, transformation methodology and tools, service delivery efficacy, engineering technology services, and radically different approaches of services delivery. We also strive to become trusted advisors for our clients.

There is nothing more exciting than creating the future with our own hands, and CRL is a place where we let our imaginations soar and make our visions a reality.
