The IBM China Research Laboratory (CRL) was established in September 1995 and is one of the eight worldwide IBM Research laboratories. Located in Zhongguancun Software Park at Shangdi District, in the northwest of Beijing, CRL has been growing steadily and currently employs over 150 technical staff members. The majority of the research staff hold Ph.Ds and master's degrees, and join IBM from China's leading universities in China.

IBM Research's mission is to be vital to IBM's future success - and the IBM China Research Laboratory plays a large role in meeting that goal. We continually strive to create world-class information technologies and the underlying science that propels the world's advances, particularly in China and other emerging markets. As the first research laboratory established in a developing country, CRL demonstrates IBM's strong commitment to China as it accesses the latest sciences and technologies from IBM's worldwide technical communities and aims to be the model for nurturing local talent and expertise. To further strengthen our surrounding environment, we also carry out joint research projects with selected universities and research institutes.
