The Austin Research Laboratory leads IBM Research in patents
and technical accomplishment awards per capita. Research
Technical Accomplishments indicate the broad range of ARL activities
and include the world's first 1 GHz processor prototype, and its
successor Rivina, the ACES circuit simulation tool, contributions
to IBM's 64MB DRAM, non-uniform memory access, SMI server memory
system chip, an automatic tool for ASIC timing closure, Cache Preconditioning
for Improved Responsiveness: The Census Bureau Dynamic Web Site,
Power4 microprocessor design, contribution to establishing the STI
design center, ultra-low-power processor design, placement driven
synthesis, CPAM-NOVA-ALSIM, high-speed serial I/O link technology,
PERCS, and the Mambo full system simulator.
