A Look Inside Research

Established in 1998, IBM’s India Research Lab (IRL) focuses on advancing the frontiers of information technology in software and services. Our researchers are renowned for their expertise in technologies such as information integration, distributed and high-performance computing, software engineering, human computer interaction, and application of computer science in governance, life sciences, commerce and telecommunications. Through its expertise and experience in these areas, and others, the lab is able to deliver innovative solutions to its clients and to IBM's regional and global operations.
The variety and depth of IRL's research fosters innovative and creative thinking.
"IRL provides ample scope, as well as the right environment, encouragement and recognition for research and for developing cutting-edge technology," said Dr. Mangala Gowri Nanda, who has been with IRL for over four years.
That work environment, along with programs that promote a healthy work-life balance, continues to attract the top talent from around the world.
"The best part about working in IBM's India Research Lab is the opportunity to do world-class research and to do it at home," said Dr. Satish Chandra, a PhD from the University of Wisconsin - Madison.
IRL's strong emphasis on professional growth and the high caliber of the research staff are key factors in its ability to reach out to a broader ecosystem. A well-planned university relations program unites the staff with academic partners to collaborate through brainstorming sessions, intership programs and lecture series, among other things.
Whether it's working with clients, academic partners or IBM colleagues, IRL is always vibrant with activity as it helps to lead the industry to the technologies of the future.
